NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Nikos Christ of Rhode Island and Christine Davis of Massachusetts were named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday. Also honored for their performances were Rhode Island’s Adam Thies and Courtney Hawkins, who were named the Men’s and Women’s Rookies of the Week. Awards were based off performances from Oct. 21-27.
Christ, a senior from Brooksville, Maine, led the Rams at this past weekend’s CCSU Short Course Run with a time of 15:53 (4k). His time earned him a 44th-place finish in a field of 199 runners.
Davis, a freshman from Acton, Mass., led the Minutewomen to a first-place tie at the CCSU Short Course Run this past weekend. Davis placed third overall in the race and finished 12 seconds short of the course record with a time of 10:15 (3k). This marked the first time this season that she paced the Minutewomen at an event.
Thies, a native of Cranston, R.I., recorded a time of 17:07 this past weekend for the Rams as he earned the first A-10 Men’s Rookie of the Week award for Rhode Island this season.
Hawkins, a native of Milford, N.H., recorded a time of 10:39 (3k) en route to a 39th place finish at the CCSU Short Course Run. She overcame an injury after tripping to finish the race ahead of most of the field.
