DAY 1 FACEBOOK PHOTO GALLERY

MASON, Ohio--Fourth-seeded Xavier and No. 5 Duquesne both advanced in the early matches of the opening round of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship. The teams will face each other in the quarterfinals Friday at 10:00 am.

Xavier defeated rival Dayton, the 13 seed, 4-0, winning at No. 6, No. 2 and No. 1 singles after capturing the doubles point.

Duquesne dispatched No. 12 St. Bonaventure in similar fashion, winning the doubles point before tallying victories at No. 1, No. 6 and No. 3 singles in order.

MASON, Ohio—Charlotte and Butler both advanced with wins in the mid-day matches at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Championship.

Third-seeded Charlotte advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-0 opening round win over No. 14 La Salle. The 49ers will face the winner between No. 6 Temple and No. 11 Saint Louis. The Niners won in order at No. 1, No. 6 and No. 3 singles after securing the doubles point.

Butler won the day’s first close match, a 4-3 upset of No. 8 Saint Joseph’s The Bulldogs won the doubles point to start the match. Saint Joseph’s then won at No. 1 singles to tie the score at one. Butler won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to establish a 3-1 lead before the Hawks tied the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.

Butler’s Tommy Marx secured the win for BU with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over SJU’s Tommy Gates. Bulldogs advance to face top-seeded VCU at 10:00 am Friday.

MASON, Ohio—Temple and Richmond won the final two matches of day one of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Championship. No. 6 Temple defeated 11th-seeded Saint Louis 4-2 and seventh-seeded Richmond beat No. 10 Fordham 4-2.

Temple took the doubles point and then won at No. 3 singles for a 2-0 lead. SLU responded by winning No. 5 and No. 6 singles to tie the match. The Owls then secured the win by taking No. 2 and No. 4 singles.  TU will face third-seeded Charlotte, who defeated La Salle earlier in the day. That quarterfinal match will be played Friday at noon.

Fordham won the doubles point, but the Spiders took a commanding lead in singles, winning at No. 6, No. 1 and No. 2 before the Rams won at No. 3 singles. Richmond secured the win and a quarterfinal match against No. 2 George Washington with a win at No. 5 singles. The UR-GW match will be played Friday at 1:00 pm
