NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond’s Ethan Dunbar Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week, while Xavier’s Zach Mueck and George Washington’s Danil Zelenkov earned Co-Rookie Performer of the Week honors. Fellow Spider, Melissa Kandinata was named Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week and Xavier’s Alex Brinker earned her third Rookie Performer of the Week nod this spring. The student-athletes are recognizes for matches played Apr. 1-7.

MEN’S TENNIS PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Ethan Dunbar, Richmond
R-Sophomore | Medina, Ohio

Dunbar went undefeated last week for the Spiders, including two straight set singles victories from the No. 1 and 2 spots. Against George Mason, Dunbar earned a doubles point with partner Sebastien Fauchet, before defeating the Patriots’ Jordan Dyke (6-1, 6-2) from the top spot en route to a 5-1 Richmond team victory. The Medina, Ohio, native then posted No. 2 singles victories against Charlotte’s Jordi Massalle Ferrer (6-7, 6-2, 6-5) and Norfolk State’s Robin Riethmueller (6-4, 6-2) to extend his winning streak to four. Dunbar improved to 13-8 this spring, and is 5-3 against conference opponents.

MEN’S TENNIS CO-ROOKIE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Zach Mueck, Xavier
Freshman | West Chester, Ohio

Mueck earned his second A-10 Rookie of the Week honor after posting five wins for the Musketeers last week. The West Chester, Ohio product netted wins from the No. 3 singles spot against Wright State’s Ricardo Pineda (6-1, 6-2), Marist’s Will Reznek (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) and Fordham’s J.J. Tauil (6-4, 6-3), improving to 17-4 overall and 7-0 against conference opponents. Mueck partnered with Michael Moe and Adam Krull for No. 3 doubles victories against Wright State and Fordham.

MEN’S TENNIS CO-ROOKIE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Danil Zelenkov, George Washington
Freshman | Skopje, Macedonia

Zelenkov extended his current winning streak to five with three wins last week, guiding the Colonials to a perfect weekend and its fifth straight team victory. The five-time A-10 Rookie of the Week posted straight set wins in the No. 3 singles spot against St. John’s Mike Lampa (6-4, 6-4) and Georgetown’s Reese Milner (6-3, 6-4), improving to 11-4 this spring. In doubles play, Zelenkov and Nikita Fomin earned a doubles point with an 8-5 win against Georgetown and were leading St. John’s No. 2 pair when GW secured the doubles point.

WOMEN’S TENNIS PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Melissa Kandinata, Richmond
Sophomore | Cary, N.C.

Kandinata took home her fourth straight singles victory last week, leading the Spiders to wins over East Carolina and UMBC. Kandinata earned straight set wins against ECU’s Neena Wanko (6-1, 6-2) and UMBC’s Heidi Danielsson (6-4, 6-1), both from the No. 1 position. Against the Pirates, Kandinata paired with Katya Salas for an 8-5 No. 1 doubles victory.

WOMEN’S TENNIS ROOKIE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Alex Brinker, Xavier
Freshman | Granger, Ind.

Brinker posted her 17th consecutive victory from the No. 2 singles spot last week, taking straight set wins against Fordham’s Sarah Ali (6-2, 6-2) and Rhode Island’s Kathleen Uy (6-2, 6-2). During that streak, the freshman has dropped just three sets and has not lost a match since Jan. 20 (Rebecca Shine, Louisville). Brinker also picked up two doubles victories over Fordham and Rhode Island with teammate Megan Morris, leading the Musketeers to a dominant 8-0 team record against conference opponents.
