2013 Women's Tennis Championship Central | 2013 Championship Bracket

Charlottesville, Va. - Top-seeded VCU and No. 2 Xavier will face off in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship finale, Sunday at 10:00am at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. VCU swept La Salle, Temple and Richmond to clinch a spot in the finals, while Xavier took wins from St. Bonaventure, Fordham and Massachusetts to earn their bid. 

In their first year of A-10 competition, the VCU Rams completed their third 4-0 sweep this week to move on to tomorrow's Championship finale. VCU awaits the winner of No. 2 Xavier/No. 3 Massachusetts. 

The Rams struck first with two wins in second and third doubles to earn the 1-0 advantage. In singles play, VCU's No. 2 Yukako Noi finished first, defeating Elizabeth Sims, 6-2, 6-2.

In quick succession, No. 5 Olga Terteac (6-1, 6-2) and No. 4 Salome Kvitashvili (6-1, 6-3) earned the final two points for VCU to clinch the victory over Richmond, who will not compete in the Championship match for the first time in five years.

Xavier earned their spot in the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship finale with a 4-0 win over No. 3 Massachusetts. Xavier will take on top-seeded VCU in the finals, Sunday at 10:00am.

Xavier opened the match with a win at No. 3 doubles before UMass took the second tandem match. The Muskeeters No. 1 singles pair, Katie Pleiman and Kally Alkire, clinched the doubles point with a close 8-6 victory over Chantal Swiszcz and Yuliana Motyl. 

With a 1-0 XU lead, Alex Brinker and Lizzie Oosterbaan both picked up singles points in straight sets from the second and sixth courts. 

Katie Pleiman, who helped clinch the doubles point earlier in the day, earned the final point for the Musketeers, defeating UM's Sonia Bokhari 7-6(6), 6-2 to lift Xavier into the finals.
