CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Richmond fell to No. 7 North Carolina, 4-0, Friday afternoon at the 2012 NCAA Tennis Championships in Chapel Hill.

"We played hard today, and I'm proud of our team's accomplishments this season," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "Helen Cunningham and Joanna Matuszczyk have been exceptional seniors for us and I want to thank them for all their hard work and leadership these last four years."

Richmond fell behind as it dropped the doubles point to begin play. Cunningham and Matuszczyk played No. 81 Haley Temm and Tessa Lyons tough, 4-3, but the match was called due to No. 1 and No. 3 doubles finishing, in favor of the Tar Heels.

North Carolina secured the victory as it took the singles point in finishing No. 6, 5, 3 in order.

Today marked Richmond's fourth-straight and 11th overall NCAA appearance. The dominant Spiders won their ninth A-10 title last month, fourth-consecutive.

Matuszczyk was tabbed this year's Most Outstanding Performer while Melissa Kandinata garnered Most Outstanding Rookie honors.

Overall, four Spiders were honored on the A-10 All Conference teams, with Matuszczyk, Kandinata and Cunningham all being tabbed to the first team, while Elizabeth Sims garnered second team accolades.

Richmond finished its impressive season 14-5 overall.
