NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Washington’s Nikita Fomin and Danil Zelenkov Men’s Tennis Performer and Rookie Performer of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. Jessica Podlofsky of Massachusetts earned the Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week nod, while VCU’s Cindy Chala was named Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week. The student athletes are honored for matches played Feb. 25 – Mar. 3.

MEN'S TENNIS PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Nikita Fomin, George Washington
Junior| Moscow, Russia

Fomin posted a perfect 6-0 record in combined play last week, including three consecutive straight set victories in singles action from the number one and two spots. Against No. 33 Columbia, Fomin earned a 6-3, 6-2 No. 2 singles win over Dragos Ignat before pairing with Danil Zelenkov for an 8-4 No. 2 doubles victory. The junior then moved to No. 1 singles and posted wins against Temple’s Kacper Rams and Fordham’s Srikar Alla, each 6-3, 6-4, contributing to consecutive 7-0 sweeps over A-10 opponents.

MEN'S TENNIS ROOKIE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Freshman | Skopje, Macedonia

Zelenkov went undefeated last week, picking up singles and doubles wins in each of George Washington’s three matches. The rookie teamed up with Fomin for three No. 2 doubles victories against No. 33 Columbia, Temple and Fordham, improving to 6-3 this spring when playing together. In singles play, the Skopje, Macedonia, native recorded a three-set win over Columbia’s Ashok Narayana (6-3, 6-7, 6-4), before defeating Temple’s Kristian Marquart in straight sets (6-4, 6-1). In his final match last week, Zelenkov posted a 6-3, 2- 6, 6-1 No. 3 singles victory against J.J. Tauil of Fordham, extending his singles streak to five.

WOMEN'S TENNIS PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Jessica Podlofsky, Massachusetts
Junior | Port Washington, N.Y.

Podlofsky went 2-0 in singles action and 2-0 in doubles action last week, earning straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 3 singles against Fordham’s Bella Genkina (6-4, 6-2) and Binghamton’s Alexis Tashiro (7-6, 6-0). The junior then paired with Arielle Griffin for consecutive wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, lifting Massachusetts to two 6-1 team victories. Podlofsky improved to 10-1 this year in singles, while she and Griffin are now 8-2 in doubles play.

WOMEN'S TENNIS ROOKIE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Sophomore | St. Cloud, France

Chala picked up her seventh and eighth singles wins this spring, all from the top spot for the Rams, against Maryland’s Vroni Van Berlo (6-2, 6-1) and South Florida’s Katie Vasenina (6-1, 6-3). The freshman added an 8-6 doubles win against USF’s No. 2 pair of Katie Vasenina and Loreto Alonso-Martinez to lock up the team’s 11th win. Chala improved to 8-3 in singles action, with her three losses coming to only players ranked in the top-36 nationally (#4, #11 and #36).
