Final Tennis Weekly Awards Announced

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington's Leah Pascarella and Massachusetts' Yuliana Motyl have been named Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Co-Performers of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Also recognized was UMass freshman, Aarzoo Malik, who earned Rookie Performer of the Week. 

WOMEN'S TENNIS CO-PERFORMER
Leah Pascarella | George Washington
Senior | Frankfort, Ill.

Pascarella finished her regular season senior campaign on a high note, picking up two wins to help GW to a 6-1 win against rival George Mason. In No. 3 doubles, Pascarella and Christina Carpenter defeated Marijke Boers and Mina Saygi, 8-3, before posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Brittany Pilkington at No. 1 singles. 

WOMEN'S TENNIS CO-PERFORMER
Yuliana Motyl | Massachusetts
Senior | Toronto, Ontario

Motyl went 2-0 last week in a UMass win against Rhode Island. At No. 3 doubles, the senior from Toronto paired with Anna Woosley for an 8-3 victory against Taylor Holden and Jordan Rucks. Then at No. 1 singles, Motyl picked up a three-set victory against URI's Galina Chernykh, winning in a 12-10 tiebreaker. 

WOMEN'S TENNIS ROOKIE PERFORMER
Aarzoo Malik, Massachusetts
Freshman | New Delhi, India

In the Minutewomen's lone match of the week, Malik picked up wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles, as UMass defeated A-10 foe, Rhode Island. Alongside Arielle Griffin, the pair defeated Galina Chernyk and Elizaveta Sadovnikova, 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. The New Delhi, India, native then recorded a straight set win over Kathleen Uy, 6-1, 6-4 at third singles. Malik finishes the spring season 10-4 in singles, riding a four-match win streak.
