GW, VCU To Represent A-10 in NCAA Regionals
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The No. 52 George Washington men's tennis team, champion of the Atlantic 10 Conference, will head to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Saturday, May 10 to face No. 29 South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Regionals.
GW (17-6) earned its third-ever automatic bid to the NCAA Team Championship after knocking off No. 50 VCU, 4-1, in the 2014 A-10 title match on April 20. The Colonials will match up with the Gamecocks (15-13) on Saturday, May 10 at 9 a.m., at the Tarheels' Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Host and seventh-seeded UNC will face South Carolina State at 12 p.m. following the GW-South Carolina tilt, and the winners of Saturday's first-round matches will go head-to-head on Sunday, May 11 at 1 p.m. for the chance to earn a berth to the NCAA Round of 16. The Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., will play host to the 12-day men's and women's combined event, which runs from May 15-26, 2014.
The Rams will make their ninth consecutive NCAA appearance after earning the A-10's automatic bid taking down Saint Louis, 4-0, in the Championship match on April 27 for their second A-10 title in as many years. VCU will face host UNC on Friday, May 9 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at 1 pm.
