
AMHERST, Mass. – The George Mason Women's Outdoor Track & Field team captured the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship title on Sunday at the UMass Track & Field Complex on the campus of the University of Massachusetts.
The Patriots finished with 118 points en route to their third A-10 Outdoor Track & Field Title. Mason was led by Sarah Moore who earned gold in the 200 and 400 meter dash. Also earning first place finishes were Ashley Lewis (800 meters), Sommer Sharpe (400 meter hurdles), Shelby Garnand (Pole Vault) and Michelle Wallerstedt (discus). They Patriots also set a new A-10 record in the 4x400 meter relay with a first-place finish in 3:40.15.
Duquesne finished second overall with 112 points. The Dukes picked up a first-place win in the 3000 meter steeplechase as Valerie Palermo finsihed in 10:24.00.
Dayton was third in the standings with 105 points. The Flyers were followed by VCU (97.5 points), Rhode Island (93.5 points), Massachusetts (93.5 points), Saint Joseph's (61.5 points), Davidson (58 points), Richmond (40 points), Saint Louis (27 points), La Salle (26 points), George Washington (17 points) and Fordham (8 points).
