Schulte, Corbosiero, Wilkes, Garnand Claim Indoor Track and Field Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Mason’s Nathan Schulte was named Men’s Track Performer of the Week, while Amanda Corbosiero of Richmond claimed Women’s Track Performer of the Week. Rhode Island’s Ryan Wilkes and George Mason’s Shelby Garnand earned Men’s and Women’s Field Performer of the Week.  Nathan Coogan of Rhode Island and Nick Peeples of Davidson shared Men’s Rookie of the Week honors, while Autumn White of George Mason won Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were based off performances from indoor meets held on Jan. 22-28.


Schulte won the 1,000-meter run and posted the sixth-best time in program history on Saturday at the Patriot Games Invitational in Fairfax. The senior from Fairfax, Va., ran a personal-best time of 2:23.38, which ranks sixth on Mason’s all-time indoor charts. The time is also the fastest in the Atlantic 10 this season and ranks eighth nationally.


Corbosiero, a senior from Roseland, N.J., placed third in the mile (4:43.01) which is the top time in the Atlantic 10 and ranks 17th nationally. Cobosiero also ran a 3:25.14 on the 1,200-meter leg of the Spiders distance medley relay, which placed second at the Penn State National Open in an A-10 leading 11:35.71. The Spiders distance medley relay mark currently ranks 12th in the NCAA.


Wilkes won the pole vault competition at BU’s John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday. The junior from Archbald, Pa., cleared a height of 5.10 meters (16’8.75”), which leads the Atlantic 10 Conference. The height ties his personal best and ties his already third all-time best in URI history.


Garnand won the pole vault with a personal-best leap of 3.95 meters (12’11.50”) at the Patriot Games Invitational on Saturday. The Chesapeake, Va., native has won all three pole vault competitions she has competed in this year. Her mark of 3.95 meters is also currently the best in the A-10 this season.


Coogan, a freshman from North Providence, R.I., ran a career-best 1,000-meter run on Saturday at BU’s John Thomas Terrier Classic. His time of 2:27.43 finished sixth overall. He currently sits fourth in the conference and is the top rookie in the event. It was the fourth-fastest time in school history.


Peeples was part of a pair of program records Saturday at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic. The freshman from Matrietta, Ga., broke the school record in the 200-meters (21.94), the first-ever Wildcat under 22 seconds indoors. He also helped reset the 4x400 meter relay record (3:17.29).


White finished second in the pole vault at the Patriot Games Invitational on Saturday. The reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week cleared a personal-best mark of 3.70 meters (12’1.50”). The Forest, Va., native, reached the ECAC qualifying mark with the jump and ranks third in the A-10 this season in the pole vault.
