EUGENE, Ore. – Anthony Hawthorne of the La Salle University men's track team capped off his impressive sophomore season Wednesday evening at the NCAA National Championships from historic Hayward Field.

Hawthorne finished 19th overall out of 24 in the 800-meter national semifinals. He hung around third place for much of his race before finishing the heat in seventh with a time 1:50.93.

It was quite a year for Hawthorne, who competed in cross country as well as both indoor and outdoor track. He became the 15th men's outdoor national qualifier this spring and was the second Explorer to compete in the 800 meters on the national stage in the last three seasons.

Hawthorne also set a school record and won the 800 meters at the IC4A Indoor Championships in March. Last month, he won the 800 title and was a member of the winning 4x800-meter relay team at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships. Hawthorne then won the 800 with a personal best time at the West Point Twilight Meet, qualifying for the NCAA Preliminary Championships, where he would go on to punch his ticket to the National Championships.
