Eight Menís Soccer Student-Athletes Receive NSCAA All-Midwest Region Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Eight Atlantic 10 Conference men’s soccer student-athletes were honored Tuesday as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced the all-region teams.
Lalas Abubakar, a defender from Ghana, led Dayton's back line, as the Flyers only gave up a 1.15 goals against average and recorded five shutouts. He was named the 2016 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and was also named to the A-10 First-Team All-Conference. This is the second straight All-Region Award for Abubakar.
Kennedy Nwabia, a forward from Nigeria, led the Flyers with six goals and two assists for a team leading total of 14 points. He was also named to the 2016 Atlantic 10 First-Team All-Conference after being named to the All-Rookie Team last season.
Aleksander Christensson helped the Dukes post a school record seven consecutive shutouts during the season. The Oslo, Norway native, who played in all 18 matches with 16 starts, was named third team by the NSCAA. He is the only freshman on the three 11-man squads.
Janos Loebe receives NSCAA All-Region honors for the second straight season, after being named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference in 2016. He tied for the team lead in goals (7), assists (6), and points (20) and was one of five players named to the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team. In just two seasons at Fordham, he has compiled 35 points in 39 games, notching 12 goals and 11 assists.
Rashid Nuhu was a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection this past season, setting career-best marks in goals against average (0.75), save percentage (.819), shutouts (7), and minutes played (1805). He saved his best play for the postseason, recording three shutouts in the Atlantic 10 Championship and stopping three penalty kicks in a shootout, on route to being named the Atlantic 10 Championship's Most Outstanding Player. Then in the Rams' NCAA First Round match at Boston College, he made a career-high 10 saves in a 1-0 loss.
Garret Hein receives NSCAA All-Region honors after being named the Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the year. The native from San Diego, Calif., scored six goals on the season including two game winners.
Jannik Loebe garners All-Region accolades after being named First Team All-Atlantic 10 this season and making his third appearance on the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team. He tied his brother for the team lead in goals (7), assists (6), and points (20), as well as being second on the team in game-winning goals with two. Over his three-year stay at Fordham, he has been clutch, netting seven career game-winning goals and 41 points in 59 games.
Rafael Andrade-Santos a junior from Rio de Janiero Brazil was tabbed to the NSCAA All-Region third team after being named First Team All-Conference. The midfielder had three goals and two assist this season starting in 18 games.
