The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Loebe is the first Ram listed on the Hermann Award Watch List since Nathaniel Bekoe in 2012. Prior to that, Ryan Meara (2010 & 2011) and Tim Richardson (2011) were also among Watch List candidates. Smith is the first Minuteman to be named to the watch list since Ben Arikian became the first in program history to do so in 2009 and 2010. As a freshman a year ago, Smith led the 2017 Atlantic 10 Champions in goals, assists
Loebe was a Third Team All-American by College Soccer News, as well as being First Team All-Atlantic 10 and First Team USC All-Midwest Region, after leading the Rams in scoring with 23 points on seven goals and nine assists. He was also named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week twice in
Davis racked up the awards last year in addition to his United Soccer Coaches Third-Team All-America honor, adding the A-10 Rookie of the Year award to go along with first-team and all-rookie team league laurels in his first season on campus. Smith tallied 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points while sending home four game-winning goals, tying the mark for the third-most in a single season in program history.
The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men's and Women's NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for both the men's and women's MAC Hermann Trophy near the end of the college season based on voting by NCAA Division I coaches and from those candidates, three finalists will ultimately be placed on the ballot for the coveted award.
