Taneski, Höfs Earn A-10 Weekly Soccer Awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton sophomore Rok Taneski was named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Monday, while George Washington junior Thor Arne Höfs was selected as Defensive Player of the Week. Freshman Hugh Chatham of Davidson was awarded Rookie of the Week. The awards, the final weekly honors of the year, are for games played from Oct. 16 -22.
Taneski, a midfielder from Kranj, Slovenia, totaled three goals and one assist in the two games for Dayton last week. He opened the week up with a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win at Saint Louis Wednesday. He followed that up by scoring both goals against Massachusetts on Saturday. Taneski finished the week with seven points, six shots, three on target, and converted his first penalty kick of the season.
Höfs, a goalkeeper from Fehmarn, Germany, was in net for a pair of GW shutouts last week. Höfs made six saves in a 2-0 win over Davidson. He made seven saves, including five in the opening half, of Saturday's 1-0 win over Duquesne. He has posted five consecutive clean sheets at GW Soccer Field.
Chatham, a freshman midfielder from Huntersville, N.C., netted his first career goal in the 96th minute at Saint Louis to lift the Wildcats to a crucial 1-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory.
