Taneski, Nuhu Earn A-10 Weekly Soccer Awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton sophomore Rok Taneski was named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Monday, while Fordham junior Rashid Nuhu was selected as Defensive Player of the Week. Freshman Nicola Bonso of St. Bonaventure was awarded Rookie of the Week. The awards, the final weekly honors of the year, are for games played from Oct. 30 –Nov. 1.
Taneski, a midfielder from Kranj, Slovenia, led the Flyers with three goals and one assist in the 5-2 win over George Mason to move the Flyers into a tie for second place in the final A-10 regular season standings. With an important game on the line, he scored in the 16th, 20th, and 49th minutes after Dayton initially trailed 1-0. Taneski converted his first penalty kick of the season and also scored the game-winner for the runner-up Flyers. He finished the regular season second in the A-10 in goals and points, and third in assists.
Nuhu, a goalkeeper from Accra, Ghana, made eight saves in the Rams' upset win over No. 25 UMass, as the Rams secured theNo. 5 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship
Bonso, a freshman midfielder from Venezia-Mestre, Italy, scored the game-winning goal in the 59th minute against No. 22 VCU on Wednesday night. His goal gave the Bonnies the win they needed to clinch a berth to the Atlantic 10 Championship. It was his third goal of the season and all three have come in the last five games of the season.
