NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Richmond junior Felicitas Heinzel was named Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week award, while her freshman teammate Florentine Beelaerts van Blokland and Saint Joseph’s freshman Quinn Maguire shared Rookie of the Week honors. Both awards are for games played from Oct. 9 -15.
Heinzel, a goalkeeper, registered 12 saves in the Spiders' 2-0 weekend. The Seeheim-Jugenheim, Germany, native recorded a 1.25 goals against average, stopping 10 shots at Lock Haven for her ninth game this season with double-digit saves. Her efforts against the Bald Eagles preserved a 2-1 overtime conference win for the Spiders. She followed that with a pair of saves against Lafayette, where she allowed just one goal before being relieved as Richmond built a four-goal lead.
Beelaerts van Blokland led Richmond with two goals, which proved to be the winning margin, in the 5-3 victory at Lafayette Sunday. She also had the game-winning assist in a crucial 2-1 overtime A-10 win at Lock Haven. Beelaerts van Blokland, a forward from Doorn, The Netherlands leads the Spiders with seven goals on the season and 19 points.
Maguire turned in a seven-point week as the 21st-ranked Hawks went 2-0.The forward from Media, Pa., tallied her first collegiate hat trick in Friday's 4-0 win over La Salle. She scored all three of her goals in an eight-minute stretch near the end of the first half to put the game out of reach. On Saturday, Maguire's long run and pinpoint pass set up Anna Willocks for the equalizer just three minutes into the second half before SJU went on to knock off the defending national champions, No. 8 Delaware, 2-1.
