Streid, Fath, Stauffer and Brunner Named A-10 Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Louis junior Grant Streid and George Washington junior Moritz Fath were named Atlantic 10 Men’s Swimming and Diving Co-Performers of the Week, while Duquesne senior Abigail Stauffer and Fordham senior Tara Brunner were named Women’s Co-Performers of the Week, the League announced Tuesday. Davidson freshman Thacher Scannell was named Men’s Rookie of the Week and George Washington’s Andrea Moussier was named Women’s Rookie of the Week. All four awards are for meets from Nov. 12-18.


Streid took home two first-place finishes in the 100-yard (48.97) and 200-yard (1:48.64) butterfly finishing with the top A-10 time for the season in both events. The junior from Peoria, Ill., also finished fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (50.06), eighth in the 200-yard individual medley (1:52.95), and 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (45.94). Streid scored 84 points for the Billikens, the second most of the meet, and helped them to a fourth-place finish overall at the Northwestern TYR Invitational meet.


Fath also had two first-place finishes and two top A-10 Times at the Marriott Fall Frenzy invitational hosted by Queens University in Charlotte, N.C. to lead George Washington to a second-place finish. The Haslach, Germany, native swam a time of 4:27.54 in the 500-yard freestyle and 1:38.23 in the 200-yard freestyle. He also took fourth in both the 400-yard individual medley (4:01.11) and the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:45.30).  


Abigail Stauffer, a senior from Chambersburg, Pa., finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.88 and took home third in both the 50-yard breaststroke (29.49) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.35) claiming the top A-10 time in both events to help Duquesne to a fourth-place showing at the Magnus Cup hosted by Cleveland State over the weekend.


Brunner helped lead Fordham to their best-ever finish at the Bucknell Invitational, taking second in the team standings with 1,264 points. The senior from New Canaan, Conn., won the 100-yard freestyle event in a season-best time of 50.54, while taking second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.22), both top A-10 times for the season. Brunner also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (55.15) and was part of three first-place relays.


Scannell won the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:40.80) at the Bucknell Invitational as the Davidson men placed second overall among seven teams. His 1,650 time is the best reported in the A-10 this season. The Stamford, Conn., native was also on the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team (6:41.34) and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.63). Scannell was also part of a fourth-place 400-yard freestyle relay team and took fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:31.86.


Moussier, a Queretero, Mexico, native, took a second-place finish in her collegiate debut in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:47.23), to help the Colonials finish second at the Marriott Fall Frenzy Invitational. Moussier also finished third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:24.69), seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.39) and 10th in the 200-yard Backstroke (2:03.86).
