NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Dayton senior Caleb Wolters and Richmond sophomore Andrew Sciarretta were selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Golfers of the Week, while St. Bonaventure freshman Danny Gianniny was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were are for events played from the start of spring season through March 21.
Sciarretta posted an even-par 216 at the Mobile Intercollegiate, and did so by improving his score with each passing round. He began the 54-hole event with a two-over, 74, then followed that up with a 73. He then improved by four stokes to finish the final round with a three-under 69, marking the fifth under-par round from a Spider this season. The Wilton, Conn., native’s score was good enough to finish in a tie for 12th overall.
Wolters helped lead Dayton to a tie for third place at the 2018 Pinehurst Intercollegiate as he finished tied for third place individually. He fired the team's tournament low round of 70 (one-under) on Saturday and followed that with an even-par 71 on Sunday. For the weekend, the Centerville, Ohio, product tallied six birdies in shooting a 218 (77-70-71).
Gianniny scored a critical win over FAU's Karan Nalam, 3 & 1 in third place contest at A-10 Match Play. The Pittsford, N.Y., native scored a critical AS for half point to earn team win over Dayton, battling back from two down with two holes to play by draining 30-foot birdie putt to win 17, then won the 18th as well. Gianniny finished A-10 Match Play at 1-1-1 for the week. He also led the Bonnies with a 223 (73-75-75) at Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate.
