VCU Advances to the A-10 Championship Final Following a 3-0 Win Over Rhode Island

PITTSBURGH — Top-seeded VCU defeated fifth-seeded Rhode Island in three sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-17) in the Atlantic 10 Volleyball semifinals Saturday afternoon at the A.J. Palumbo Center.


The Rams (29-2) advance to Sunday’s championship final to play for the A-10 automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. VCU, which owns the nation’s longest winning streak at 26, will face the winner of Saturday’s second semifinal Sunday at 1:00 pm ET. The A-10 championship game will air live on the A-10 Network.  


The appearance in Sunday’s Championship for VCU will mark its first appearance in the title game since the 2013 Championship.


As a team, VCU had an attack percentage of .400 on the day and were led by several strong performances including 24 digs by A-10 Libero of the Year, Rebekah Strange. Tori Baldwin recorded seven kills and Vicky Giommarini led the Rams in kills with 11. Three VCU players also hit better than .625 for the match.  


Rhode Island’s Lauren Pick had 23 assists to lead URI. With the loss, Rhode Island falls to 12-16 on the season.
