Adams Claims A-10 Player of the Week Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure senior Jaylen Adams was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Davidson freshman Kellan Grady was selected the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Tuesday, are for games played Dec. 25-31.
Adams, a Baltimore native, led the Bonnies to a win over UMass with 32 points on 10-of-16 (.625) shooting from the field and 4-for-6 (.667) from 3-point range. Adams dished out seven assists and did not commit a turnover in the conference-opening victory. The guard, who was just three points shy of his career high, also added four rebounds and a steal and was 8-for-10 (.800) at the line.
Grady finished the week averaging 27.5 points, while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor, including a 9-of-16 (.563) effort from behind the 3-point line. In Davidson's win over Akron at the Diamond Head Classic, Grady scored 24 of his season-high 30 points in the second half, while going 12-of-19 from the field. His fifth 20-point outing of the season came in Davidson's conference opener at Richmond. The guard from Boston scored a game-high 25 points on 9-of-17 (.529) shooting, including four more 3-pointers.

Josh Cunningham had a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double with three steals in Dayton’s league opener at Duquesne … Dayton freshman Jalen Crutcher scored seven points and dished out four assists with two steals versus the Dukes … Rene Castro-Caneddy shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the field and 3-for-6 (.500) from long range to score 21 points and help Duquesne win its A-10 opener over Dayton … Duquesne freshman Eric Williams, Jr. had 15 points, seven rebounds and was nearly perfect form the line (7-of-8, .875) in the win over Dayton … Yuta Watanabe scored 18 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double while also adding two assists, a block and a steal in George Washington’s victory over A-10 foe Saint Joseph’s … GW freshman Terry Nolan, Jr., scored 14 points with four rebounds in the Colonials win over SJU … Pookie Powell tallied 28 points on 12-of-19 (.632) shooting, while also swishing 3-of-4 (.750) from 3-point range with seven rebounds in La Salle’s win over Saint Louis Saturday … Rhode Island’s E.C. Matthews returned to form after missing time for an injury, averaging 19 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in a pair of Rhody wins, a non-conference victory over FGCU and a conference-opening win against George Mason … Nick Sherod shot 70 percent (7-of-10) from the field, including 4-for-6 (.667) from 3-point range en route to 22 points and a Spider victory over Davidson … Saint Louis freshman Jordan Goodwin had 16 points, 13 rebounds and two steals in the Billikens opener at La Salle … Justin Tillman had a monster 23-point, 14-rebound double-double in VCU’s win over Fordham.
