March 12 Press Conference Transcript

St. Bonaventure's record-setting season continues into the NCAA Tournament, where the Bonnies will face UCLA in the First Four Tuesday night.

• St. Bonaventure makes its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012, its seventh all-time and second under coach Mark Schmidt. The Bonnies' last NCAA Tournament win was in 1970.
• The Bonnies have tied the school record for most wins in a season with 25. The only other St. Bonaventure club to win 25 games was the 1969-70 Final Four team.
• St. Bonaventure has earned three straight 20-win seasons – the first time that has happened for the Bonnies since a run of four 20-win seasons from 1958-61. Over the last three years, the Bonnies are 67-28 overall (.705) including 39-15 in the Atlantic 10 (.722).
• St. Bonaventure's nine road wins set a team record. The Bonnies finished 9-4 in true road games, winning their final five road contests, and are 12-6 away from the Reilly Center.
• The Bonnies are led by their senior backcourt of Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley, both of whom earned first team All-Conference honors. Adams, an All-American candidate, was selected Co-Player of the Year by the A-10 coaches. In the A-10 Tournament, Mobley averaged 23 points per game and made 14 three-pointers. He now has a school record 102 on the season.

Head Coach Mark Schmidt
Overall Record: 273-241 (17th season)
At St. Bonaventure: 191-151 (11th season)
NCAA Tournament Record: 0-1 (lost vs. Florida State in 2012)
Notable: Has led the Bonnies to three straight 20-win seasons and four straight years with 10-plus Conference wins ... is the first St. Bonaventure coach since Larry Weise ('68 and '70) to lead Bona to multiple NCAA appearances.

Series With UCLA
St. Bonaventure and UCLA have met just twice before, in 1974 and 1975, with the Bruins winning both meetings.

Adams, Mobley Form One Of Nation's Best Backcourts
The duo of Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley is undoubtedly one of the nation's best backcourts. Despite the intense defensive attention they receive, they are the second-highest scoring tandem in the Atlantic 10 as well as among the A-10 leaders in three-point shooting, assists and steals.

Adams and Mobley Both First Team All-Conference; Adams Is A-10 Co-Player of Year
He has been spectacular the entire season. Now, he is the 2017-18 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. St. Bonaventure senior point guard Jaylen Adams was named the A-10's Co-Player of the Year along with along Davidson senior forward Peyton Aldridge. It marks only the third time in conference history that two players have shared the award. As the Player of the Year, Adams also is a member of the All-Conference first team. In addition, fellow senior guard Matt Mobley joined Adams on the first team All-Conference.  Adams is the first St. Bonaventure player ever to earn first team All-Conference honors three times. He is the third Bonnies player to be named the A-10 Player of the Year, joining Andrew Nicholson (2012) and Earl Belcher (1981).

Adams Is Highest Scoring Guard In School History; Stands 6th All-Time
With his 24 points against Richmond Feb. 10, Jaylen Adams became the highest scoring guard in St. Bonaventure history. He moved past guards J.R. Bremer (1,732) and Marques Green (1,734).  Adams now has 1,893 career points, which ranks sixth all-time at Bona's. All of the top five leading scorers in school history are forwards or centers: Greg Sanders, Andrew Nicholson, Earl Belcher, Bob Lanier and Tom Stith.

Mobley Breaks 3-Point Record
Slowing down senior shooting guard Matt Mobley is a high priority for opposing defenders. Even with the added defensive attention, Mobley has continued to perform at a high level. He ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring at 18.5 points per game, with 15 games of 20-plus points. He has 30 games of 20 points or more in 64 career games at St. Bonaventure. He also has reached the 30-point mark six times in his career, with three of those coming this season. Mobley now also holds the school's single-season record for three-pointers with 102. Last season, which was his first at St. Bonaventure after transferring from Central Connecticut State, Mobley went from a virtual unknown to a star, All-Conference player. Mobley's 18.5 ppg average ranked fourth-best in the A-10. Now with 1,185 points over 64 games at St. Bonaventure, Mobley is just the second player in program history who has played only two seasons with the Bonnies and reached the 1,000-point plateau. Marcus Posley was the first in 2014-16. Mobley is also the 15th player in program history -- and third season in a row a player has done it (Posley and Jaylen Adams) -- to score 1,000 points (or more) over two seasons.

Senior Class Breaks Wins Record
The Bonnies' two four-year seniors, Jaylen Adams and Idris Taqqee, have now been a part of 86 wins, which is a new program record. The previous record of 80 wins was held by the class of 1980 seniors Delmar Harrod, Bruno DeGiglio and Jim Elenz.

Experienced Lineup With Three Senior Starters
Experience certainly can help a team win in college basketball and the Bonnies have plenty of it. Combined, seniors Idris Taqqee (122), Matt Mobley (125) and Jaylen Adams (108) have played in 353 career games. As a trio, they have played in 64 games together.

Hot Streak Last Four Games Extends Stockard's Strong Season
The last four games were a breakout of sorts for junior swingman Courtney Stockard, as he set career highs in scoring twice and was instrumental in three wins, averaging 23.3 points and 8.8 rebounds. He sat out the Davidson game with a hamstring strain.

Drawing Charges Stockard's Forte'
Courtney Stockard's proficiency in drawing charges has not gone unnoticed. He now has drawn 22 on the season, a team high.

Griffin Named A-10's Most Improved Player
LaDarien Griffin's journey to becoming a regular contributor is similar to many past St. Bonaventure players: he started out raw and had to earn his way into the rotation. The first part of his maturation was to become stronger. He added 15 pounds of muscle to his 6-6 frame, now at 215 lbs. His freshman season, Griffin played in only 11 games, scoring a total of six points. Last season, he earned time in 29 games and averaged 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. This year, Griffin has started all but one game. He leads the Bonnies and ranks 14th in the A-10 in rebounding at 6.5 per game, including 2.4 offensive boards per game. Griffin also has five double-doubles, the first of his career.
