NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The 2018 NBA Summer League gets underway Monday, and as of Sunday, 16 Atlantic 10 Conference players had earned a spot on a Summer League Roster. Eleven different A-10 schools are represented among the 16 players.
Designed to give former college players an opportunity to showcase their skills, there are three sessions of summer league. The first two, which take place in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Sacramento, Calif., begin Monday and continues through Thursday, July 5. Both of these sessions feature a limited number of teams. The Las Vegas session, which runs from July 6-17, includes all 30 NBA teams.
Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Year Jaylen Adams was signed to a two-way contract with Atlanta this week and he will play for the Hawks in the summer league. He’s one of four St. Bonaventure standouts on the NBA roster, the most of any A-10 team. He’s joined by Demitreus Conger (Boston Celtics), Marcus Posley (Denver Nuggets) and Matt Mobley (Utah Jazz).
Joining Conger on the Celtics is Rhode Island’s Hassan Martin. Martin’s former teammate E.C. Matthews will play for the Memphis Grizzlies. Along with Rhode Island, George Washington also had two players chosen, with Yuta Watanabe (Brooklyn Nets) and Tony Taylor (New York Knicks) each making a roster. Former Richmond standout, Justin Harper will also play for the Knicks.
The other A-10 Co-Player of the Year, Peyton Aldridge of Dayton, will join Mobley on the Jazz while Dayton draftee Kostas Antetokounmpo, who was drafted and then traded to Dallas will play on the Mavericks’ squad. George Mason big man Shavon Thompson will play for the Raptors, while UMass’ Rafael Putney landed a spot with the San Antonio Spurs. Justin Tillman will patrol the paint for the Miami Heat after a stellar career at VCU.
One-time Philadelphia foes James Demery (Saint Joseph’s) and B.J. Johnson (La Salle) will now team up to play for the Charlotte Hornets, rounding out the 16 A-10 players on the NBA Summer League rosters.
Through Sunday, eight NBA teams had not announced their summer league rosters, meaning the A-10 could have additional players announced on rosters in the coming days.
