Dayton Women's Basketball Travels To Italy
DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's basketball team will travel to Italy from Aug. 5-15 for a series of international games and cultural intake.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Italy as a team and we are so grateful to our administration for making this happen," said head coach Shauna Green. "Not only will we get the opportunity to play three games to get a jump start to our upcoming season but we will experience so many unbelievable sites as a team that will help build our team chemistry. For our players to experience the Italian culture will be something that they will remember the rest of their lives."
The trip, organized by Basketball Travelers, Inc., will see the Dayton women's basketball team visit Rome, Florence, Venice, and Como in Italy. The Flyers have three games scheduled in Rome, Florence, and Venice with opponents to be announced.
As part of the tour, the student-athletes will also participate in a two-credit hour class.
The games will be an opportunity for the Flyers to have multiple new student-athletes compete with the returning players as the team works on its chemistry before the upcoming season.
"We are really excited for this opportunity to visit and learn about the culture, language, and history of Italy," said senior guard Lauren Cannatelli. "It's definitely a once in a lifetime trip that we are so lucky and blessed to be able to experience. This trip not only gives us an opportunity to develop as a team but also as individuals in exploring another country and seeing everyday life from a new perspective."
"This trip will help our team both on and off the court," Cannatelli continued. "It's awesome that we're able to have some team practices this summer to start building the foundation and to be able to play a few games in Italy will give us a chance to develop our team chemistry. It will give us something to build on going into the preseason. We are very excited and can't wait to see what this trip has in store for us and we're very thankful for everyone who's been working to plan and make this experience possible."
Traditional coverage of the games will be limited. There will be no internet audio or video streaming of the games, and no live stats. To keep up to date with the Flyers during their trip to Italy, be follow to follow their social media accounts below:
