PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s women's lacrosse recent graduate midfielder Maggie Egan ('17) and rising junior midfielder Rebecca Lane recently wrapped up international competition in England and Poland after playing for their respective national teams over the month of July.
Both Egan and Lane competed at the 2017 FIL Rathbones Women’s World Cup, held at Surrey Sports Park at the University of Surrey in Guilford, Surrey, England from July 12-22. Egan competed for the Ireland Lacrosse Women's National Team; her grandfather, Patrick, was born and raised in Carrick-on-Suir in Tipperary, Ireland, while her grandmother's parents were natives of County Kerry, Ireland. Through seven games with the Irish National Team, Egan tallied 17 points on 11 goals and five assists and added a team-high 16 loose balls to go with 18 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Egan was brilliant in Ireland’s contest against Italy, where she recorded three goals and a helper to go with six loose balls, five draw controls, and three caused turnovers en route to being named the Player of the Game. Egan also had big games against Colombia (4g, 2a), Sweden (3g), and Germany, where her team dominated the draw control number with a 13-of-15 showing when Egan was in the circle.
Through eight games with the Australian National Team, Lane totaled 17 points on nine goals and eight assists to help lead Australia to a fourth-place team finish. Lane recorded five points (3g, 2a) against Scotland, tallied a hat trick against Wales, scored twice against Canada, and added a goal and a helper in the bronze medal game vs. England, a heartbreaking, overtime loss.
Lane then went on to earn a bronze medal at the 2017 International World Games, held from July 25-29 in Wroclaw, Poland. She tallied an assist and won three draws against Canada before tallying three helpers, two draw control wins, and a caused turnover in Australia’s victorious bronze medal game against Great Britain.
Egan graduated from Saint Joseph’s University with a degree in food marketing this past spring, while Lane returns for her junior season on Hawk Hill this upcoming fall.
