AMHERST, Mass. – As the 2018 campaign draws closer, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released its preseason coaches poll with the University of Massachusetts ranked 18th to start the season. The Minutewomen are coming off their ninth straight Atlantic 10 championship title and reached the NCAA Second Round last spring.

The season officially begins on Feb. 17 when UMass opens with a home game against Dartmouth.

Two of UMass' opponents this season were also listed in the preseason poll. Boston College is ranked sixth after reaching the NCAA Semifinals last season, while Cornell enters the year ranked 13th.

In 2017, the Minutewomen posted a 17-4 overall record and were perfect in A-10 play for the seventh straight season. UMass enters the 2018 campaign with an NCAA record stretch of 54 consecutive regular-season league wins. The Maroon & White have not dropped an A-10 match-up since the 2010 regular-season finale.

Leading the UMass offense this year will be 2017 A-10 Offensive Player of the Year Holly Turner who is joined by first-team selection Hannah Burnett and all-rookie selection Kaitlyn Cerasi. The Minutewomen will look to re-tool a stellar defensive unit which lost three starters from a year ago. The unit will be anchored this spring by senior Kristen LoManto and returning goalie Lauren Hiller who earned all-rookie honors last year.

Head coach Angela McMahon enters her eighth year at the helm of the program with an impressive 128-18 record in Amherst with NCAA Tournament appearances every year including a spot in the Elite Eight in 2016.
