NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — In a poll conducted amongst the league’s 14 head coaches, the Dayton Men’s Cross Country team has been selected as the favorite to take home the 2017 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, the A-10 announced on Wednesday.
Dayton, the defending A-10 champion, received 178 points and seven first-place votes. The Flyers return three top-15 performers from last year’s championship in juniors Chris Negri (7th place) and Spencer Danielson (14th place) and senior Tyler Adgalanis (15th place).
Duquesne was selected to finish second in the preseason poll with a total of 162 points. The Dukes received three first-place votes and are coming off a second-place finish at the 2016 championship. George Mason was selected third with 161 points, followed by Saint Louis (155) and Saint Joseph’s (153) to round out the top five
La Salle was voted sixth in the poll with 122 points followed by Davidson in seventh with 111 points. Fordham recorded 101 points for eighth place and Massachusetts (89) and George Washington (80), were ninth and tenth, respectively. Richmond, Rhode Island, VCU and St. Bonaventure rounded out the poll, which was voted on by the league’s 14 head coaches.
The 2017 Atlantic 10 Men’s Cross Country Championship will be hosted by George Mason University at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va. on October 28. The Cross Country regular season begins this weekend.
