NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Dayton teammates Chris Negri and Emily Leonard were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday. Also honored were Richmond teammates Noah Yuro, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Caroline Robelen, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week.  The awards were based off performances from opening weekend meets, held September 1-3.

Negri, a junior from Warren, N.J., led the Flyers to a first-place team finish at the Queen City Invitational Saturday in Cincinnati. He placed second overall with a personal best time of 15:01.7 in the 5K event against the likes of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Xavier, and Wright State.

Leonard, a senior from Park Ridge, Ill., finished first out of 105 runners at the 2017 Queen City Invitational hosted by Xavier University. She won the women's 5k in a time of 17:19.1, just .1 seconds off the school record held by Maura Bulgrin (17:19.0 set Oct. 1, 2010). The second-fastest time in UD history was also a personal record for Leonard. She helped the Flyers to a first-place team finish, beating out Xavier, Cincinnati, Wright State, Georgia State, Cedarville and Northern Kentucky.

Yuro, a freshman from Howell, N.J., jumped onto the college scene finishing ninth among collegians at the Spider Alumni Open. He was the top freshmen in the race with a time of 15:53.0 on the 5K course.

Robelen, a freshman from Glen Allen, Va., was the fastest freshman on the course at the Spider Alumni Open, finishing seventh overall with a time of 11:11.5. She helped the Spiders win the team title over William & Mary, George Mason and VCU.
