Rowing Completes Six Races During NCAA Championships Day One

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The University of Massachusetts rowing program concluded the first day of competition at the 2017 NCAA Championships with participation in morning heat races and the afternoon repechage round on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey. This marks the third year Massachusetts won the right to represent the Atlantic 10 in the last four holdings of the NCAA Championships (2014, '15, '17).
The Varsity 8+ crew of Haley Eovine (cox), Krysten Menks, Zoe Hill, Grace Bundy, Daniella du Toit, Abigail Diazcadena, Pippa Edwards, Natalie Boisvert and Sam Wonderlin took to the water at Mercer Lake first with participation in Heat No. 4. The Minutewomen totaled fifth in the six-boat race with a 6:31.831 finish. It bested Navy, which reached in 6:35.741.
The Second Varsity 8+ raced to a sixth-place finish in its heat with a time of 7:05.232. Kelsey Anderson (cox), Abby Norwood, Hadley Irvin, Hannah White, Meghan Ouellette, Charlotte Bleiler, Kelley Glennon, Caroline Gosnear and Sabrina Seeley comprised the Second Varsity 8+ crew.
The Varsity 4+ closed out the morning session for the Minutewomen in 7:48.472 during Heat No. 4 with Abigail Raichek (cox), Hallie Dunlap, Lauren Jubb, Hannah McCollough and Rebecca Mills crewing the Varsity 4+.
All three crews participated in their respective afternoon repechage races. The Varsity 8+ took sixth (6:35.877) while the Second Varsity 8+ (6:58.019) and the Varsity 4+ added seventh place spots (7:44.859) as all three boats moved to Saturday's C/D Semifinal competition.
Massachusetts continues racing during the second day of the 2017 NCAA Championships. The Varsity 8+ will be on the water first at 8:12 a.m., followed by the Second Varsity 8+ (9:12 a.m.) and the Varsity 4+ (9:48 a.m.)
