University of Richmond staff:
"I would suggest Lucy’s, Savory Grain and for a more casual experience Sub Rosa Bakery."
--Keith Gill, Director of Athletics
"The Tavern: Great food for any time of day, great people and close to campus."
--Chris Mooney, Head Coach, Men’s Basketball
"Mekong on Broad Street is one of the best eats on Richmond. I love Mission Bar B Que for ‘Que, SuperStars on Patterson has amazing Subs. The Tavern has amazing Crabcakes or Soft Shell, depending on the season. Burger Bach in Carytown or Short Pump has the BEST burgers in town, period. The best view is The Boathouse in Rocketts landing. Don’t Look Back Tacos in Catytown are really good, authentic tacos."
--Peter Albright, Head Women’s Soccer Coach
"Can-Can, sort of a French-American cuisine hybrid place. Not too expensive either and has a cool 20s/swinger type atmosphere. Great steaks but also has burgers and cheaper menu items. In Cary-town. I also personally love the Daily for breakfast. Also in Carytown. Awesome egg sandwiches and home-made muffins, croissants, and pastries that are awesome. More of a breakfast spot but lunch isn't bad either. Cheaper than Can-Can with a large portion of outdoor seating."
--Mike Goldberg, Richmond Baseball Volunteer Assistant
"Edo’s Squid – One of the hidden gems of the city. Italian restaurant with an emphasis on seafood specialties. Part of the fun is finding the entrance."
--Abby Houser, Assistant AD for Business
"Roosevelt has the best Fried chicken in town. Shyndigz because their cakes are ridiculous and enough for 4 to share. Mama J's is the best soul food in Richmond- hands down!"
--Michael Shafer – Head Women’s Basketball Coach
"Casa Del Barco, the Bang Bang Shrimp tacos are the best tacos you will ever eat Near campus- Palani Drive: Great wraps, salads, quesadillas and smoothies. Richmond swimming is well-known there and they treat us well. District 5: Gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and tons of beers on tap. Kuba Kuba and Kuba Kuba Dos: amazing paella and other Spanish dishes and the tres leches cake is the best dessert in Richmond. Urban Farmhouse- locally sourced coffee shop with tons of seating and nitro brew coffee. My go to weekend coffee house."
Erin Mullins, Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach
A couple of my favorites are Acacia Midtown, Max's on Broad, Buzz & Neds BBQ, and Hardywood food truck Court on Thursdays"
--Cori Chambers, Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach
"Lunch/Supper. Casual dining with great southern food.”
Dish: Ribs with Mac and cheese.
--Will Wade, Head Coach Men's Basketball
"Kuba Kuba (this is a hard thing to pick!). The food there is fantastic, I've never had a bad meal there and I think I've tried most of their menu, but the Cuban sandwich is phenomenal!"
Dish: Cuban sandwich, closely followed by the Kuban Roast Pork!
--Laura Baker, Heach Coach, Field Hockey
"Bakers Crust: This is my family's favorite Saturday morning breakfast spot."
Dish: The Waffle Wich
--Dave Giffard, Head Coach Men's Soccer
"Lee's Chicken - Best fried chicken strips (big, meaty) you will ever eat. Not fancy but just good food including the sides."
--Matt Ball, Head Coach Men's Golf
"Mary Angelas Pizza in Carytown, Sausage and mushroom pizza. Without question the best pizza in or around Richmond in my humble opinion."
--Lindsay Martin, Head Coach Women's Soccer
First choice - La Grotta. After visiting Italy I was never able to find an Italian restaurant that served food equal to what I enjoyed while traveling...that was until I went to La Grotta. Authentic Italian does not even do them justice. From the ambiance, to the service staff to the quality of food -- if you want the full Italian experience, La Grotta has it!”
Dish: Filet al Pepe Verde
Second choice - Shyndigz. I have been pregnant half (18 of the 36 months) of the time I have lived in Richmond. A restaurant dedicated to dessert? Enough said.”
Dish: Grown Up Smores
--Jen O'Brien, Head Coach Women's Lacrosse
