NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference Council of Presidents has extended the contract of Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade through 2018 the league announced Wednesday.
McGlade, who was hired in 2008 as the A-10's fifth commissioner, just completed her fifth year, arguably the most successful in the history of the league from an academic and athletic standpoint. She has also successfully navigated the A-10 through conference realignment, resulting in the addition of VCU in 2012, George Mason in 2013 and Davidson in 2014.
"On behalf of all the A-10 presidents, I congratulate Commissioner McGlade on this well-deserved extension of her contract," said Steven Knapp, George Washington University President and Chair of the A-10 Council of Presidents. "She has done a terrific job of guiding the conference through a period of significant change, greatly enhancing its visibility and strengthening still further its longstanding commitment to the ideal of the student-athlete."
Her tenure has seen an increase in league revenues, including a new multi-year media rights partnership that will take effect in the coming year, and increased exposure for men's basketball, leading to a multiple NCAA Tournament bids and a partnership with Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the men's championship. She has also spearheaded increased exposure and championship access for women's basketball and the A-10's 19 Olympic sports and high national rankings in NCAA academic metrics.
