BALTIMORE, Md. – SpiderTV won an Emmy Award on Saturday night at the 55th Emmy Awards at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront.

The SpiderTV first-ever TV production, Richmond Basketball: The Tradition Spins On, received the Emmy in the Sports One-Time Special category for the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

SpiderTV received a nomination last month for the show that aired last fall on Comcast Sports Net and was hosted by Spider basketball player Derrick Williams. The show produced and directed by Mark Kwolek and Blake Ellett, was one of 11 entries in the Sports One-Time Special category and three were chosen as nominees. RGIII Mission Possible by Comcast SportsNet and The Mystics 15th Anniversary Special by the Monumental Sports & Entertainment were also nominated.

The SpiderTV special took fans on a basketball journey from the streets of Philadelphia to the waterways of Venice, and on a walk down Richmond basketball's tradition-rich memory lane to tip-off the year's celebration of 100 Years of Spider Basketball.

More than 550 broadcasters from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia gathered for the event, which presented Emmys in 93 categories. The Emmy Award is the premier television production award presented in various sectors of the television industry, including entertainment, programming, news and documentary shows, and sports programming. The awards are presented in various area-specific ceremonies held annually, honoring excellence in television programming.
