FORT COLLINS, Colo. -The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team will host Mount St. Mary's in the opening round of the 2013 Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament on November 8 at 7 p.m., organization officials announced on Tuesday.
Should the Hawks win, they would face the winner of LSU versus Stephen F. Austin on either November 10 or 11, with game site to be determined at a later date.
If SJU were to advance to the semifinals, it would play on Thursday, November 14, with the championship set for Sunday, November 17. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, November 15-16.
The championship game will be nationally televised on Sunday, November 17 at 4 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network.
Coming off the 2013 Atlantic 10 title and NCAA Tournament appearances, SJU is one of 10 teams in the field that earned an NCAA Tournament bid last season. The Hawks join by Georgia State, Gonzaga, Idaho, IPFW, Louisville, Loyola Chicago, LSU, Mount St. Mary's, North Carolina A&T, Oklahoma, Quinnipiac, Stephen F. Austin, Stetson, Tennessee-Martin, and Wichita State to make up the 16-team field.
Saint Joseph's previously played in the Preseason WNIT in 2004. The Hawks topped Boston University 51-49 in the first round before falling at No. 9/10 Ohio State, 76-29.
The Preseason WNIT began in its modern form in 1994. It is organized and produced by Triple Crown Sports, a national sports event company based in Fort Collins, Colorado.
