NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Massachusetts sophomore Brooke Sabia was named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, while her teammate Charlotte Verelst was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week as the league announced the weekly awards for games played between Sept.2 - Sept. 8.

Sabia recorded 10 points on the week, scoring five goals in UMass’ 3-0 week. The Lafayette Hill Pa. native earned four points on two goals against UMass-Lowell as the Minutewomen won the inaugural Kennedy Cup. Sabia followed with one goal against Harvard for her third multi-point performance of the season before adding four more points against No. 19 Boston College with two goals.

Verelst played a key role in Massachusetts’ three wins, recording an assist in each one of the matches.  The Braine I’ Alleud, Belgium product recorded her first college point against UMass-Lowell, setting up  Sabia to put the Minutewomen up, 2-0. Verelst added another assist on the eventual game-winner at Harvard on Friday, before she secured her final point and assist of the week, helping kick-start the UMass offense against Boston College.
