NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Richmond’s Jason Skipper was named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week, while Tara Hanley of Richmond and Margo Richardson of Saint Louis were named Women’s Co-Performers of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Also honored for their performances were Neal Fitzpatrick of Saint Louis, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Richmond’s Marisa Ruskan, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week. Awards were based off performances from September 16-22.

Skipper, a senior from Pittsford, N.Y., led the way for the Spiders at this past weekend’s William & Mary Invitational with a time of 15:29.9 (5k) en route to a first-place finish. This performance marks the second time this season Skipper has been named A-10 Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week after previously winning the honor following his performance in the Spider Alumni Open.

Hanley, a sophomore from Chatham, N.J., recorded a time of 17:56.4 (5k) at the William & Mary Invitational and earned her first career collegiate victory as she led the Spiders to a first-place overall team finish. Along with the Spiders, the William & Mary Invitational consisted of host William & Mary, Hampton and A-10 member VCU.

Richardson, a senior from Mt. Vernon, Ill., recorded a time of 17:47.5 (5k) and an 11th-place overall finish at this past weekend’s National Catholic Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. In her season debut, Richardson led the Billiken women to a fifth-place team finish in a field that consisted of Notre Dame, Xavier, Marquette, Loyola (IL), Holy Cross, DePaul, Detroit and A-10 member St. Bonaventure.

Fitzpatrick recorded a time of 26:23.2 (8k) helping the Billikens to a third-place team finish, their best finish ever at the National Catholic Invitational. The New Orleans, La., native’s time was also the third best time posted by freshman in the meet.

Ruskan, a freshman from Bound Brook, N.J., finished second overall in the William & Mary Invitational with a time of 18:07.8 (5k). She was one of four Richmond runners to finish in the top 10 of the race.
