NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Massachusetts’ Josh Schwartz has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, while Dayton’s Amass Amankona garnered Rookie of the Week honors for matches played Sept. 23-29.

The Annapolis, Md., native scored two goals, including the game-winner, and had two assists in UMass’ 5-2 win over Siena. It was the Minutemen’s first win of the year after starting 0-8-1. His six-point day was a career-high, was the second highest in the league this year and extended his season totals to four goals and two assists. He moved from tied for 12th in the A-10 in goals to a tie for third place. His 10 points ranks sixth-best in the league. He now has 26 career points on 11 goals and four assists, along with three game-winning goals.

Amankona scored his second and third goals of the year in a 4-1 win over Loyola Chicago last Saturday, including the game winner for the 19th-ranked Flyers. The Kumasi, Ghana native drove home a Dayton goal kick on a nice volley into the back of the net for his opening goal. In the 75th minute, Amankona recorded his second goal to all but seal Dayton’s victory. He finished the game with a perfect 1.000 shooting percentage and shots-on-goal-percentage. This year, Amankona is third on the team in goals and assists.
