GEORGE WASHINGTON 101, JACKSON STATE 73
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Five players scored in double figures as the George Washington women's basketball team exploded for 101 points in a 101-73 victory over Jackson State in the 2013-14 season opener on Saturday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center.

GW topped 100 points for the first time since a 100-57 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Dec. 17, 2000, and the 101 points were the most the Colonials have scored in a game since a 111-61 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Dec. 28, 1999.

Graduate student Megan Nipe led the Colonials with 20 points, and freshman Hannah Schaible totaled 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists in her collegiate debut. Rookies Shannon Cranshaw and Caira Washington scored 13 points apiece in their first games, as Cranshaw made three 3-pointers and dished out a team-high five assists while Washington pulled down eight boards.

Grad student Danni Jackson rounded out the double-figure scorers for GW with 12 points to go with three assists and five steals. In addition, grad student Brooke Wilson recorded a game-high 11 rebounds to go with eight points in her first official game since tearing her ACL nearly a year ago.

GW (1-0) was hot out of the gates, jumping out to a 23-7 lead after seven minutes of play behind nine points from Nipe. The Lady Tigers chipped away and pulled within single digits three times, but never got closer than eight, and an 11-4 GW run to end the half - capped by a jumper by Jackson just before the buzzer - gave the Colonials a 52-37 advantage at the break.
