“It feels awesome, the first of many” Milleson said. “These girls believe and they’re doing things we’re asking them to do.”
The Patriots were led by a career night from Taylor Brown with 24 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Sandra Ngoie also contributed eight rebounds while registering 14 points.
“We played well as a team tonight,” Brown said. “We started off a little flat, but we played through adversity and finished pretty strong.”
After quickly falling behind 9-0 in the first three minutes of the game, Mason outscored the Eagles 32-14 before the break to take a 32-23 lead into the break.
“We had a feeling we might be a little sluggish from the day,” Milleson said. “But, we did a great job staying together and weathering the storm. I’m just really, really proud of this basketball team”
The Eagles made another strong push in the second half, twice leading by as much as five. But Mason would regain the lead with eight minutes to go and hold on to seal the win.
“We faced some things today we haven’t faced before, late game situations and such,” Milleson said. “It was awesome, first road win for this team.”
Next up, the Patriots will host Utah Valley Thursday night in their home opener at 7 P.M. at the Patriot Center.
“We’re really excited,” Brown said. “Mason Nation, we’re ready to play.”
“Quick turn-around, but we’re very excited to be back home in front of our fans and families,” Milleson adds.
