NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Duquesne will be the top seed for the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship, which begins Friday at George Washington’s Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, D.C.

The Dukes finished the season at 12-2 in Conference to claim first place outright. Duquesne won a key match over VCU Friday to edge out the Rams in the race for first. VCU finished at 11-3 in league play to earn the second seed.

Championship host George Washington will be the No. 3 seed, finishing the regular season at 10-4 in conference play and 15-13 overall. The Colonials will play in the second quarterfinal on Friday at 7:30 pm against No. 6 Rhode Island. Rhody was 7-7 in the A-10 and 15-15 overall.

Fourth-seeded Saint Louis (9-5 in the A-10, 13-16 overall) will face No. 5 Dayton (8-6, 14-12) in Friday’s first quarterfinal at 5:00 pm. The Flyers are three-time defending champions and the Billikens are the only team besides Dayton to have won the A-10 title since 2002.

Both Duquesne, which is 18-9 overall and VCU, 24-7 overall receive first round byes in the championship and will both play their first matches of the championship in the semifinals. Duquesne will face the winner of Saint Louis/Dayton Saturday at 5:00 pm. VCU plays the GW/Rhode Island winner at 7:30 pm.

The Championship match will be played Sunday at 1:00 pm with the winner receiving the Atlantic 10’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Every match of the 2013 Volleyball Championship will be streamed live for free on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.

Tickets are available at the Smith Center box office, and will be $6 for adults and $4 for children 2-12 years old. Three-day Championship passes are available for $15 for adults and $10 for children 2-12.
