NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington’s Megan Nipe has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while St. Bonaventure’s Gabby Richmond has been named Rookie of the Week for games played from Nov. 11 – Nov. 17.

Nipe scored a career-high 31 points to lead GW to a 75-72 upset victory over No. 10/11 California on Friday night at the Charles E. Smith Center – the Colonials’ first win over a top-25 opponent since the 2008 NCAA Tournament. She is the first GW player to top 30 points since Cathy Jones scored 32 on Feb. 20, 2004 against Rhode Island. Nipe made 11-of-20 field goals, including 4-of-9 from three-point range and 5-of-6 from the foul line, and she added seven rebounds. Through the first two games of the season, Nipe is averaging a league-best 25.5 points per game and shooting 48.6 percent from the floor.

Richmond continued to build on her fast start to the 2013-14 season again this weekend as the Bonnies extended their winning streak to three games. Richmond had a game high 17 points along with nine rebounds in St. Bonaventure’s victory over highly touted Wisconsin – Green Bay on Friday night. She then followed up her stellar performance from Friday by recording a career high 21 points in the team’s win over Fairfield on Sunday. Richmond finished Sunday’s game as the high-scorer, in which she also contributed six rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 33 minutes played. Through the Bonnies four games played this season, Richmond is averaging 18 points, 7.8 rebounds per game.
