Fall Sports Honor Roll - Sept. 15

Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Ben Horner - Duquesne
Sophomore, Midfielder, Butler, Pa./Butler HS

Horner tallied two goals and two assists in a 2-0 week for Duquesne to earn Duquesne Invitational MVP honors...notched the game-winner in a 4-1 win over Marshall on Sept. 12 and assisted on two goals...scored the game-tying goal on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute of an overtime win over Lafayette on Sept. 14...earned College Soccer News National Team of the Week accolades.

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Tyler Witmer - Temple
Freshman, Midfielder, Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser HS

Witmer scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Hofstra on Sept. 13 in Temple's lone game of the week...the goals were the first and second of his collegiate career.

Women's Soccer Players of the Week
Kim Boulos - Fordham
Senior, Fordham, Croton, N.Y./Croton HS

Boulos amassed eight points on three goals and two assists in leading Fordham to a pair of victories...her goal in the 109th minute lifted the Rams past Marist on Sept. 12, 2-1 (2OT)...tied her career high with five points on Sept. 14 as Fordham downed Manhattan, 4-1...leads the team with eight points.

Anna Cunningham - St. Bonaventure
Sophomore, Forward, Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Grosse Pointe South HS

Cunningham scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist on Sept. 12 in St. Bonaventure's 3-0 win at Cornell...tallied the winning goal with 20 seconds remaining in the Bonnies' 2-1 victory at Pittsburgh on Sept. 13...added an assist versus Pittsburgh...leads the Conference in points with 13.

Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Niki Conn - Temple
Freshman, Forward/Midfielder, Morton, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara HS

Conn tallied a pair of goals, including her first career game-winner, as Temple turned aside Saint Peter's on Sept. 12, 3-0...assisted on the winning goal on Sept. 14 as the Owls edged Vermont, 2-1...her four goals and nine points are tops on the team.

Field Hockey Player of the Week
Anne Shreuders - Saint Joseph's
Junior, Midfield, Utrecht, Netherlands/Christelyk Gymnasium HS

Schreuders scored a last-second goal in Saint Joseph's 2-0 victory over VCU on Sept. 13, then added another in the Hawks' 3-2 overtime win at William & Mary on Sept. 14...she also assisted on two other goals during the weekend, totaling six points in three games...her 12 points on the season rank first in the A-10.

Field Hockey Rookie of the Week
Kelly Swanick - Saint Joseph's
Freshman, Goalkeeper, Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy

Swanick made 13 saves over three games to help SJU sweep its slate for the week...after holding off Penn, 2-1, on Sept. 10, Swanick made seven saves and earned a shutout in a 2-0 victory over VCU on Sept. 13...recorded four saves the following day in a 3-2 overtime win at William & Mary...her save percentage (.811) is the best in the Conference.

Volleyball Player of the Week
Erin Schroeder - Dayton
Senior, Setter, Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula HS

Schroeder recorded her second career triple-double on Sept. 14 against Tennessee with 55 assists, 22 digs and 10 kills in the 3-2 loss...it was the first triple-double of the year by an A-10 player...averaged ten assists, four digs and had 1.3 kills per set, while hitting .424 on the weekend in leading UD to the Lady Vol Classic title...eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark and became the second player in UD history to record 1,000 career digs and 1,000 career assists...in a win over No. 17 Illinois on Sept. 12, Schroeder had 49 assists and 21 digs...has a double-double in seven of nine matches played in this season.

Volleyball Rookies of the Week
Valerie Akerhielm - Dayton
Freshman, Defensive Specialist, Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS

Akerhielm earned All-Tournament team honors at the Lady Vol Classic over the weekend after garnering 49 total digs in her first tournament start...added 25 digs and one assist in an upset of No. 17 Illinois on Sept. 12...finished with 3.77 digs per set.

Alyssa Valentine - George Washington
Freshman, Setter, Tustin, Calif./Edison HS

Valentine was named Most Valuable Player of the GW Invitational after leading the Colonials to a 2-0 mark after averaging 9.1 assists per set...assisted on 25 of GW's 35 kills...averaged 2.0 digs per game and added a block and two aces in the six sets...hit .625 with six kills and just one error on the weekend...second Rookie of the Week honor.

Golf Performer of the Week
Lewis Sturdy - George Washington
Senior, Keston, England/The Tonbridge School

Sturdy carded a career-low round of 68 on Sept. 12 and shot a second-round 70 the following day to win the season-opening Navy Fall Invitational at Annapolis, Md...his total of 138 is a new GW record for a low 36-hole score and the team's tournament victory is its first since 2006...Sturdy led the 90-player field with 10 birdies, as well as an eagle in the win.

Golf Rookie of the Week
Jimmy Bea - Saint Joseph's
Freshman, Southhampton, Pa./Council Rock South HS

Playing in his first collegiate event, Bea posted a one-under, 143 to finish seventh at the season-opening Navy Fall Invitational at Annapolis, Md., on Sept. 12-13...his 72-71 (143) led Saint Joseph's to a third-place team finish, which matched the Hawks' best finish of last season.

Women's Cross Country Performers of the Week
Amanda Goetschius - Charlotte
Sophomore, Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional HS

In her first race of the season, Goetschius placed first in the Bojangles Invitational at Charlotte in a time of 18:56...marked her first collegiate victory...field consisted of 90 competitors...Charlotte finished first out of nine teams.

Nicol Traynor - Richmond
Sophomore, Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge HS

Competing at the Navy Invitational on Sept. 13, Traynor finished second overall out of 158 runners in a time of 22:39 on the 6K course...led Richmond to the team title.

Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Emily Zaccardi - Rhode Island
Freshman, Scituate, Mass./Scituiate HS

Zaccardi earns her second A-10 Rookie of the Week award in as many weeks after finishing seventh in a field of 50 competitors at the Fairfield Invitational on Sept. 13...registered a time of 19:22.42...URI placed second out of seven teams.

Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week
Matt Llano - Richmond
Junior, Arnold, Md./Broadneck HS

Llano captured the individual title at the Navy Invitational on Sept. 13 in a time of 24:38...marked his first collegiate win...field consisted of 117 runners...Richmond finished second out of 11 teams.

Men's Cross Country Rookies of the Week
Tyler Jones - La Salle
Freshman, Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West HS

Competing at the Old Nassau Run at Princeton on Sept. 13, Jones finished second overall out of 99 competitors with a time of 25:35.60...was the top La Salle runner...led the Explorers to a third-place showing in the ten team field.

Tim Smith - Richmond
Freshman, Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring HS

Smith led the U.S. team with a fifth-place showing at the 2008 World Mountain Running Championships in Switzerland in a time of 43:02 over 5.1 miles...marked the best finish for an American junior male in the 24-year history of the event...led the U.S. Team to a fourth-place finish overall.
