Men's Soccer Players of the Week
Chris Pennock - Rhode Island
Junior, Goalkeeper, Middlesborough, England/Middlesborough College
Pennock blanked both Vermont on Sept. 26 and Hartford on Sept. 28 to lead URI to an undefeated record (1-0-1) and the tournament title at the UMass Invitational...named to the All-Tournament team...played 171:37 minutes of scoreless soccer over the weekend...recorded five saves overall...boasts three shutouts on the season.
Chris Salvaggione - Charlotte
Senior, Forward, Monument, Colorado/Lewis Palmer, HS
Salvaggione finished the week with five points, including two game winning goals, to lead Charlotte to a 2-0 week...defeated UNC Greensboro, 1-0, on Sept. 24 and Elon, 2-1, on Sept. 27...had a hand in all three 49er goals on the week after adding an assist versus Elon...has scored eight goals in Charlotte's first eight games.
Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Tyler Witmer - Temple
Freshman, Midfielder, Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser HS
Witmer scored a goal in each of Temple's games this week and now leads the squad with four goals on the season...tallied a goal in a 3-0 win over Rider on Sept. 26 and scored the second goal in a 2-2 tie versus Pennsylvania on Sept. 28...second Rookie of the Week honor.
Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Hailey Beam - Charlotte
Junior, Midfielder, Cornelius, N.C./Texas Tech University HS
Beam tallied her first career hat trick and added a pair of assists in Charlotte's 8-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Sept. 28...had a goal and two assists on Sept. 26 as the 49ers downed La Salle, 6-0...her 12 points on the weekend raised her season total to 22, good for second in the A-10.
Women's Soccer Rookies of the Week
Cara Critchlow - Saint Joseph's
Freshman, Goalkeeper, Wall, N.J./Wall Township HS
Critchlow recorded 21 saves in a pair of matches as Saint Joseph's extended its unbeaten streak to a program-record seven contests...made nine saves in the Hawks' 1-0 win over Rhode Island on Sept. 26...posted 12 saves on Sept. 28 as SJU played Dayton to a 1-1 draw...improved to 5-0-1 with four shutouts on the season.
Jonna Handra - Charlotte
Freshman, Forward, Port Vuer, Pa./South Allegheny HS
Handra scored her second game-winning goal of the season as part of a five-point afternoon as Charlotte turned aside St. Bonaventure on Sept. 28, 8-2...amassed six shots on the weekend...is tied for third on the team in goals with four...named the A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second time.
Field Hockey Player of the Week
Jacklyn McGranahan - Saint Louis
Senior, Midfielder, Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat HS
McGranahan scored a hat trick and had two assists in Saint Louis' 5-0 victory over Bellarmine on Sept. 27...her eight points are the most in a game by a Billkin since Nov. 6, 1999...marked the first SLU hat trick since Oct. 18, 2000.
Field Hockey Rookie of the Week
Lindsay Fry - La Salle
Freshman, Forward, Douglassville, Pa./Oley HS
Fry scored the first two goals of her collegiate career in La Salle's three shutout victories last week...aided the Explorers to their longest winning streak of season.
Volleyball Players of the Week
Sally Warning - Saint Louis
Junior, Middle Blocker, Appleton, Wisc./Kimberly HS
Warning hit an impressive .535 on opening weekend of A-10 play and averaged 3.86 kills per set to give SLU a 2-0 mark in the league...added 1.57 blocks per set...posted 13 kills and five blocks in a 3-1 win over Charlotte on Sept. 26...had 14 kills and six blocks in a 3-0 sweep over George Washington.
Yun Yi Zhang - Temple
Junior, Outside Hitter, Shanghai, China/Gezhi HS
Zhang posted 56 kills in 10 sets (5.6 kills/set) and hit .341 to lead Temple to a 3-0 week in Conference play...added 1.6 digs per set and had six blocks on the week...had a match-high 24 kills with just two errors in a 3-1 win over Rhode Island on Sept. 26...added 21 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Fordham on Sept. 27 and had 11 kills in a sweep over La Salle on Sept. 23.
Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Liz Homan - Duquesne
Freshman, Middle Hitter, Celina, Ohio/Celina HS
Homan led Duquesne to a 1-1 week after hitting .375 and averaging 2.75 kills per set...posted a career-high 14 kills and hit .560 in a 3-1 win over Charlotte on Sept. 28...did not have any errors versus the 49ers...added eight kills in a loss to George Washington on Sept. 26...helped lead Duquesne to its first-ever victory over Charlotte...DU's 11 wins this season eclipsed last year's total of 10...second Rookie of the Week honor.
Golf Player of the Week
Brennan Payne - St. Bonaventure
Senior, Arcade, N.Y./Pioneer HS
Payne led St. Bonaventure to its fifth consecutive Little 3 Championship on Sept. 23...led the field with a career-best four-under par 68 to take home medalist honors...marked the second time in Payne's career that he earned medalist honors at the Little 3 Tournament... also carded two-over par 74 in the only round during a rain-shortened Cornell Invitational on Sept. 28... his six birdies marked the second-highest total in the field as he finished tied for ninth out of 82 competitors.
Golf Rookie of the Week
Kevin Lewis - St. Bonaventure
Freshman, Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta HS
Lewis opened the week with a solid one-over par 73 to help lead St. Bonaventure to another Little 3 Championship on Sept. 23... Lewis' 73 put him a tie for third place overall...also carded a one-over 73 to tie for 13th overall at the Cornell Invitational on Sept. 28.
Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week
Kerri Gallagher - Fordham
Sophomore, Belle Harbor, N.Y./Bishop Kearney HS
Competing at the Leeber Invitational at Fairfield on Sept. 27, Gallagher placed fourth in a field of 123 competitors with a time of 19:28.57 on the 5K course...was the top Fordham runner...the Rams finished third out of 11 teams.
Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Caitlin Storbeck - La Salle
Freshman, Jeffersonville, Pa./Archbishop Carroll HS
Storbeck was the top La Salle runner at the Inter-Regional Invitational at William & Mary on Sept. 27 with a time of 23:29.5 on the 6K course...placed 23rd out of 89 runners...the Explorers finished fourth out of nine teams.
Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week
Chris Lemon - Dayton
Bowling Green, Ohio/Toledo St. John's HS
Lemon finished 31st out of 229 competitors at the Roy Griak Invitational at Minnesota on Sept. 27 in a season-best time of 25:10...UD placed 16th in the 25-team field.
Men's Cross Country Rookies of the Week
Tyler Jones - La Salle
Freshman, Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West HS
Jones placed 26th out of 108 runners at the Inter-Regional Invitational at William & Mary on Sept. 27 in a time of 25:59.4...named the A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second time...La Salle placed fourth in the nine-team field.
Brian Riley - Fordham
Freshman, Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side HS
Competing at the Leeber Invitational at Fairfield on Sept. 27, Riley posted a time of 25:57...placed ninth in a field of 150 runners...was the second Fordham runner to cross the finish line...the Rams finished second out of 11 teams.
