PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade today announced the hiring of Ed Pasque as associate commissioner for governance and external affairs.

"I am extremely happy to welcome Ed to the Atlantic 10," says McGlade. "He brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our staff and will be a valuable resource to our member institutions and Conference as a whole."

Pasque's responsibilities at the A-10 will include serving as the primary liaison to the A-10 member institutions for NCAA and Atlantic 10 Conference governance, legislation and interpretations, rules and policies; tracking NCAA legislative and interpretive issues and communicating necessary information; processing Level II secondary violations of NCAA legislation, including preparation of an NCAA enforcement quarterly report; coordinating the Conference's nomination and selection process for NCAA committee vacancies; serving as the liaison to the Atlantic 10 Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Academic Advisory Committee; serving as the primary contact for the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives; and administering the Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship program. In addition, Pasque will assist with the management of the A-10 Men's Basketball Championship, oversee the Conference's licensing and merchandise agreements and work externally with the Conference's marketing, branding and promotional efforts locally, regionally and nationally.

Pasque joins the Atlantic 10 after two and a half years at Northern Illinois University, where he served as Associate Athletic Director/Compliance before being elevated to Senior Associate Athletic Director last April. As a member of the Northern Illinois senior management team, Pasque was the liaison between the Division of Academic and Student Affairs and Intercollegiate Athletics. In this role, he monitored the admission processing of student-athletes, coordinated interactions between Registration and Record and Student Financial Aid, and served as the interface between Student-Athlete Academic Support Services and the athletic staff. He also served as the sport administrator for women's soccer, cross country and track & field; was responsible for educating the NIU staff regarding NCAA eligibility rules and regulations, and oversaw the department's Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate for student-athletes.

Prior to joining the Northern Illinois staff, Pasque served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Academic Services at Campbell University, beginning in October, 2003. Since 2004, he has worked for Carr Sports Associates as an intercollegiate athletics consultant, providing expertise in the areas of NCAA legislation and membership requirements.

Pasque earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in 2001. He was a member of the Berkeley International Law Journal in 1999 and was honored with the Prosser Award. Pasque was an attorney with Foley and Lardner in Madison, Wis., until 2002, when he was named assistant compliance officer at the University of West Florida.

A 1992 graduate of Eckerd College with a bachelor's of arts degree in psychology, Pasque was a member of the men's basketball team and established a school record for career three-point percentage. Upon graduation, he embarked on a four-year stint in the United States Navy as a Communications Supervisor for Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Eleven, based in San Diego, Calif. During his tenure, Pasque was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal for exemplary military service.

"I am excited to join Commissioner McGlade's staff and appreciate this great opportunity. I look forward to working with the member institutions and being a part of one the finest conferences in the country," says Pasque.

Pasque and his wife, Stacey, are the parents of daughters Ruby (7) and Hazel (3) and son Oliver (5).
