NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade issued the following statement Wednesday regarding recent conference realignment.

“The Atlantic 10 is proud of and serious about our conference commitment to being the best Division I basketball-centric conference in the country. Our focus and mission will not change going forward and we will continue to make decisions that enhance the strength and brand of this league,” stated McGlade. “The current environment surrounding Division I membership realignment activity is a relevant concern which we are monitoring closely. As we do so, we will stay focused on our current student-athletes and membership, the 2012-13 season and our inaugural championship for men and women’s basketball in the New York market at Barclays Center. The Atlantic 10 will remain a strong conference and speculation is non-productive. Of far greater importance this holiday season is remembering those touched by tragedy, both young and old. We offer our support and prayers and ask that everyone within the A-10 family do the same.”
