Jan. 17, 2012
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Fordham's Sean Atkinson was honored as the Atlantic 10 Conference's Men's Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week, while Charlotte's T'Sheila Mungo was named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Women's Performer and Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Also honored this week were Charlotte's Jamil Muhammed-Ray and Rhode Island's Jalen Young, who were named the Men's Co-Rookies of the Week. Atkinson, the junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., registered two IC4A qualifying times this past week at both the Rutgers and Yale Invitationals. Atkinson posted second-place finishes in both the 500-meter (1:03.06) and the 4x400 meter relay (3:19.73) at the Rutgers Invitational. He followed up that performance with a second and third place-finish in the 400-meter (49.10) and the 4x800 meter relay (7:46.49) at the Yale Invitational. This is the second time Atkinson has received this award this season. Mungo, the freshman from Charlotte, NC, recorded three top-five finishes this past weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational in the 400-meter (55.84), the 500-meter (1:13.89), and the 4x400 meter relay (3:46.71). Mungo's times currently rank first in the Atlantic 10 in all three events.
