Weekly Indoor Track & Field Awards Announced

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Charlotte’s Sean Kluttz and Richmond’s Nicol Traynor were named the Men’s and Women’s Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday. Also honored was Charlotte’s Michael Tamayo, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Charlotte’s LeAnna Morrison, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week.

Kluttz, the sophomore from Albemarle, N.C., recorded a second-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.29 at this past weekend’s Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational. Kluttz’s time in the 800 meters is currently the best in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season. Kluttz was also a member of the 4x800 meter relay team that picked up a third-place finish with a time of 7:41.10 and currently stands as the fastest time in the A-10 this season.

Traynor, the senior from Basking Ridge, N.J., set a new school record in the 3,000 meters en route to a first-place finish in the event. The 2011 All-American shattered the previous Richmond record by five seconds, and currently holds the fastest time in the league this season by more than 11 seconds.

Tamayo, the freshman from Mebane, N.C., posted a time of 1:56.10 in the 800 meters along with also being a member of the 4x800 relay team that set a new Charlotte school record.

Morrison, the freshman from Monck’s Corner, S.C., recorded top-three finishes in the 60-meter hurdles and the 4x400 meter relay at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational. Morrison is now the second consecutive 49er to be named the Women’s Rookie of the Week. Charlotte’s T’Sheila Mungo was named both the Women’s Performer of the Week and Rookie of the Week the previous week.
