Indoor Track and Field Weekly Awards Announced

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Alfredo Santana of La Salle was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Performer of the Week, while Alyson McGonigle of Richmond and Kiara Porter of VCU received Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Co-Performers of the Week. Anthony Campbell of Charlotte and Mary Allen of Richmond were named Men's and Women's Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office Monday for meets competed Jan. 21-27. Santana, a senior, received Men's Performer of the Week after competition this past weekend at the Penn State National Invitational. The Philadelphia, Pa., native finished third out of 16 competitors in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:22.87, posting a top time for the A-10 and also qualifying for the IC4A Championships. McGonigle, a junior, earned Women's Co-Performer of the Week after racing in the 800m this past weekend at the Patriot Games hosted by George Mason. The Chester Springs, Pa., native finished first out of 40 competitors with a time of 2:12.82, the top time in the conference so far this season. Porter, a sophomore, also earned Women's Co-Performer of the Week after competition at the Penn State National Invitational. The Yorktown, Va., native finished second behind Olympian Shana Cox in the 400m with a time of 53.43 seconds, while also setting a new school record. Campbell was named Men's Rookie of the Week after competition at the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech. The Washington, D.C., native finished third in the triple jump event with a mark of 14.64m, an IC4A qualifying standard. Allen garnered Women's Rookie of the Week after taking second place in the 200m and 400m races at the Patriot Games. The Richmond, Va., native finished the 200m in 25.06 seconds and the 400m in 57.57 seconds.
