NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple’s Travis Mahoney and Charlotte’s Joann Blakney were named the Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday. Also honored this week were Charlotte’s Jamil Muhammed-Ray, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week, and Richmond’s Taylor Clevinger, who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week.

Mahoney, the senior from Old Bridge, N.J., broke a 29-year old Temple school record in the 1-Mile Run at the Penn State National Open with a time of 4:02.40. Mahoney also helped the Owls to a first-place team finish in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:01.84.

Blakney, the freshman from Charlotte, N.C., recorded a third-place finish in the 60-meters with a time of 7.44, and a first-place finish in the 200-meters with a time of 24.28 at the Penn State National Open. Both times currently rank first in the Atlantic 10.

Muhammed-Ray, the freshman from Charlotte, N.C., posted a fifth-place finish in the 200-meters at the Penn State National Open with a time of 22.05. This is the second time this season Muhammed-Ray has been named Rookie of the Week.

Clevinger, the freshman from Mechanicsville, Va., posted a time of a 2:14.48 in the 800-meters on the way to an individual victory at the Navy Classic. Clevinger was also a member of the Spiders’ Distance Medley Relay team that set a new Wesley A. Brown Field House record with a time of 11:51.34, which currently ranks as the top DMR time in the Atlantic 10 this season.
