Deaton, Richardson Receive A-10 Indoor Track and Field Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Jake Deaton of Charlotte was named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week, while Margo Richardson of Saint Louis was named Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week. Kyle Martin of VCU and Alvonna Blakney of Charlotte received Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league for meets competed Jan. 28 – Feb. 3. Deaton, a senior, was named Men’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week after competition this past week at the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Mooresville, N.C., native set a new school record in the shot put event with a toss of 18.05 meters, which leads the conference by nearly one meter. Richardson, a junior, garnered Women’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week after a great race at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. The Mt. Vernon, Ill., native finished second out of 70 competitors in the one mile race with a time of 4:52.28, set a new school record, and now leads the conference after last week’s competition. Martin was named Men’s Rookie of the Week after racing in the 60m hurdles at the 2013 Armory Collegiate Invitational. The Bowie, Md., native finished second out of 37 competitors with a personal best time of 8.19 seconds. Blakney received Women’s Rookie of the Week after competing at the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational. The Charlotte, N.C., native raced in the 60m hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.61 seconds.
