Academic All-Conference Team

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Charlotte's Lamarra Currie and Darius Law have been tabbed the Atlantic 10 Student-Athletes of the Year in women's and men's indoor track & field, respectively, in voting conducted among the Conference's sports information directors.

Currie defended her titles in the 55m (6.99) and 200m (24.63) dashes in leading Charlotte to its fourth consecutive title at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship on Feb. 20-21 at Rhode Island's Mackal Field House. The senior from Apex, N.C., established a school record in the 60m dash at the Penn State National Open (Jan. 30-31) with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.39. Currie also posted a time of 24.47 in the 200m dash at Penn State, the third-fastest mark in program annals and tops in the A-10 this season. Named to the Indoor Track & Field Academic All-Conference team for the second consecutive year, Currie was recently awarded a NCAA Ethnic Minority Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics. She boasts a 4.0 grade point average majoring in Psychology.

Joining Currie on the women's indoor track & field Academic All-Conference team are Dayton teammates Ashley Cattran and Johnna Zaccari; Samantha Howard of Duquesne; Rhode Island's Shayna Daugherty and Stephanie Gregory; Christa Plummer of La Salle; Massachusetts' Shiyi Zan; Mary Maloney of Saint Louis; and Temple's Amanda Cole.

Law sprinted to gold in the 200m dash (21.77) and defended his title in the 400m dash (48.78) as Charlotte won its second straight crown at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship. Named the Championship's Most Outstanding Track Performer, the sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., also ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x400m relay (3:19.71). Earlier in the year, Law shattered his own program record in the 400m dash at the Penn State National Open (Jan. 30-31) with a USATF qualifying time of 47.26. He maintains a 4.0 grade point average as an Accounting major.
 

 

Joining Law on the men's indoor track & field academic All-Conference team are teammates Adu Dentamo and Ryan Jank; Rhode Island's Brian Alexander, Michael Elliott, and James Whalen; Matt Llano of Richmond; Austin Critchlow and David Whelan of Saint Louis; and Xavier's Tommy Kauffmann.
