NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Rhode Island and Charlotte have been predicted to take home the 2012 Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field titles, respectively, in voting conducted among the league’s head coaches.

Last season, the Rhode Island men’s team picked up its sixth Atlantic 10 Indoor title with a narrow 158.5-155.5 victory over runner-up Charlotte. Rhode Island and Charlotte have now combined to win eight Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Titles in a row, and 10 of the last 11 overall.

The Charlotte’s Women’s team was the 2011 Atlantic runner-up, coming up just short to champion Dayton, 161-159. The 49ers captured four Atlantic 10 Indoor titles between 2006 and 2009, and were also co-champions in 2010.

The 2012 Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Feb. 17-18 on the campus of University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I.
